After two home games in four games, Bridlington Town take a long away trip to Ashington AFC in the Northern Premier League today.
The Seasiders have been unable to score in those two home games, losing 2-0 against Pontefract Collieries on Saturday, October 26 and 1-0 against Bradford Park Avenue on Tuesday, October 29.
In an effort to fix the lack of goals, manager Denny Ingram has said:
“We’ve got one (player) coming in this week. I agreed with a centre forward on Monday. Unfortunately, he couldn’t make it today, but he will be involved on Saturday.”
On the performance against Bradford, he said:
“You’ve got to be clinical in both boxes, and at this moment in time we’re not clinical in both boxes.”
The signing of a centre forward will be a welcome one, not only because of a need to score more goals, but also due to Danny Earl being unavailable due to injury.
Goalkeeper Sebastian Malkowski will also miss out on Saturday, as he serves a suspension for a red card picked up at half time against Pontefract.
Ingram will now be looking for his side to send a run of three consecutive losses, as his side also picked up a 3-2 defeat against Cleethorpes Town, despite a good performance against the now league-leaders.
It’s been an even worse run, however, for Ashington, who are win less in their last nine league games. They last won in the Northern Premier League on Tuesday, September 10, beating Bradford Park Avenue 1-0 in just their second league victory of the season.
The first came a week prior when they won 2-1 against Garforth Town. With just nine points from 14 games, the Colliers occupy 20th place and sit in the relegation zone.
Bridlington last travelled to Ashington in March, though a 5-2 defeat made it a long journey back to East Yorkshire.
However, the reverse fixture in September 2023 ended in an impressive 2-0 victory for the Seasiders.
