It finished as ten versus ten, but Whitby held their nerve on Saturday.
Town went to NPL Premier rivals Lancaster City and claim a crucial 2-1 victory.
Whitby grabbed the lead deep into first-half injury time after a brilliant first-time volley from the right-edge of the penalty from youngster Harley Dawson. It was a first strike for his new club after the ex-Pickering midfielder signed in the summer.
Dawson said it was the best goal he'll ever score:
Blues supporters travelled west in numbers.
They were soon celebrating again moments into the second half.

Seconds after the restart, Donald Chimalilo netted his third goal since coming in from Ashton United.
However, Town then lost centre-half Alex Nelson to a second yellow card, only for a City player to follow in the aftermath for dissent.
The game opened up and Lancaster pulled one back but Whitby clung on to earn £2,250 and entry to the second qualifying round, with Scarborough and Pickering.
Here's Paul Connolly's commentary from This Is The Coast Extra:
Player-boss Gary Liddle spoke to Whitby Town TV's Liam Ryder after the final whistle:
The draw for the second qualifying round is Monday at 1pm.
Whitby are back in action on Saturday when they visit Derbyshire side Ilkeston in NPL Premier.
