The proportion of people getting a positive result in the county is three times higher than before Christmas.
The number of COVID cases in North Yorkshire has increased dramatically over the past two week's and it's now assumed that the new variant of the disease has played a part in that spread.
Dr Victoria Turner is the county's public health consultant.

He says while most of the new cases are people of working age there is also an increase in infections in care homes.
