The CEO of Anglo American the company behind Whitby's Woodsmith Mine paid a visit to the Scarborough Science and Engineering Week yesterday.
Mark Cutifani was at the event to help launch a new cyber apprenticeship scheme.
Mark says having an event where school pupils are encouraged to think about engineering careers is really valuable.
More than 30 local, regional & national employers and training & education organisations have been exhibiting at the Science and Engineering week which ends today at Scarborough Spa, the event has been sponsored by Anglo American.
It's the 12th edition of the annual event which is organised by the Scarborough Business Ambassadors and engineers Unison. They say that since the event started it has attracted more than 33,000 students, inspiring a future workforce into skill-based careers covering science, design, technology, engineering and mathematics.
The 12th anniversary event has attracted more than 2,000 young people aged from seven to 19, from schools across the coast and beyond.
Mark Cutifani says the engineering week event is a great way of sparking youngsters interest in engineering, something he thinks is important for a range of companies on the Yorkshire Coast and he's delighted that Anglo American can be involved.
