Age UK North Yorkshire Coast & Moors has announced the opening of its brand-new bookshop, Chapter One in Scarborough
The shop, which opened this week, will be open Monday to Friday, 9am – 4pm, at the charity’s main office, 39 Aberdeen Walk, Scarborough, offering a wide range of quality donated books for readers of all ages to enjoy.
Every purchase made will help to raise vital funds to support local people aged 50 and over across Scarborough, Whitby, Filey, Malton and surrounding areas.
To make the new bookshop a success, Age UK North Yorkshire Coast & Moors is appealing for Volunteers and Donations.
Volunteers are needed not only for Chapter One, but also for the charity’s other shops in Eastfield, Falsgrave, Filey and Ramshill. The Age Concern team say that
"Volunteers play a vital role in keeping shops thriving, and it’s a great way to give back, meet new people and build new skills."
The charity is also asking the community to donate good quality books that can be resold to help raise essential funds for services that reduce loneliness, promote independence and improve wellbeing for older people.
Julie Griffiths, Head of Retail, said:
“We are thrilled to open Chapter One@ Age UK North Yorkshire Coast & Moors.
Our shops are a lifeline for funding the support we provide to older people in our community, and we couldn’t do it without the generosity of local people.
Every book donated and every hour volunteered makes a real difference.”
Anyone interested in volunteering or donating books can pop into the new shop on Aberdeen Walk, or contact Age UK North Yorkshire Coast & Moors directly on 01723 379058 or go into any of their other four shops.
