Scarborough Borough Council could overspend by a million pounds this year but still pass on £15m to it's replacement.
The latest projections take account of higher than expected costs in a number of areas including
“exceptional inflationary cost pressures related to pay, fuel and utilities”
Corporate Finance Manager - Kerry Metcalfe - says despite the forecast the borough will still hand over a multimillion pound fund to the New North Yorkshire Council in April, when the borough is abolished.
The Borough Council looks likely to pass on fifteen million pounds to the new North Yorkshire Council when local government reorganisation takes place nest April.
The figure includes sums currently earmarked for development projects in the borough.
Councillor Andrew Backhouse is calling for the ring-fencing of that money for the borough.
The council says it has “currently uncommitted resources” of more than £7m. This is made up of £2.2m relating to the 2021/22 revenue budget underspend, £4m in additional capital receipts generated from asset sales, and £1m earmarked for the progression of schemes in the Scarborough and Whitby Blueprint.
