10K Organisers On The Look Out For 2023 Race Starter

Organisers of the Yorkshire Coast 10k are once again looking for someone to officially start the race.

Last year, Scarborough cancer survivor Liam Critchett had the honour of starting the race and once again thisisthecoast listeners will have the opportunity to nominate the starter of this years race.

Race director - Alan Whelan - says that it's a great way to promote worthy causes.

The Yorkshire Coast 10k is back on the Sunday 15th October with 2200 runners expected to take part on the day.

The 10k course starts at the Scarborough Spa at 9:45am before moving round South Bay, past the Harbour, round the headland and into North Bay. The course then moves through the Open Air Theatre where there will be a water stop and then out to the Sea Life Centre before making a return to the Spa.

Alan Whelan says that they are still supporting last years race starter, Liam Critchett.

There will also be a £250 bonus for setting a new course record. Currently Ricky Stevenson holds the mens record for 30:15 in 2010 whereas Kate Avery set the womens record with 35:39 in 2011.

If you know an adult or child on the Yorkshire Coast who you feel deserves to fire the horn to start the 10K, alongside Paddy on the balcony at Scarborough Spa then you can nominate them using a special form on the This is the Coast website which you can find at https://www.thisisthecoast.co.uk/features/who-should-start-the-yorkshire-coast-10k-run1/

The person you nominate could be a participant (if so, they can join a later wave of the race), or someone with no connection to the event or running itself but really deserve the opportunity. It could even be you.
