Teenager died from serious neck injuries after dog attack, inquest hears

A woman died when she suffered serious neck injuries after a dog attack, an inquest has heard.

Jamie-Lea Biscoe, 19, was discovered in an upstairs bedroom at an address in the Essex village of Leaden Roding on 10 April, court co-ordinator Matthew Austin said.

On Tuesday, an inquest opened into her death at Essex Coroner's Court in Chelmsford.

Essex police previously said officers were called to the property at 10.45pm and emergency services pronounced her dead at the scene.

Officers added that they had also arrested a 37-year-old man from Dunmow.

He was held on suspicion of being in charge of a dog dangerously out of control and causing injury resulting in death, the force said. He was bailed until July while enquiries continue.

Mr Austin told the hearing on Tuesday that Ms Biscoe was found with "serious traumatic injuries to her neck" and it was suspected that these had been "caused by one of the family's dogs".

A post-mortem examination recorded her cause of death as "neck injuries pending investigation of histology and toxicology".

The dog, believed to be a lurcher cross, was seized and tests were being carried out to establish the exact breed, according to police.

Senior coroner Lincoln Brookes suspended proceedings, saying he had received a written request from police to do so, pending the outcome of a criminal investigation.

He said: "I do offer my deepest condolences to the family, friends and loved ones of Jamie-Lea Biscoe on what can only be described as a tragic loss of life."
