Republican candidate Mike Lindell third Trump endorsee to lose in US primaries

Former MyPillow chief executive Mike Lindell has failed to win the Republican nomination for Minnesota governor, despite Donald Trump endorsing him in May, saying he would be "spectacular" for the state.

Lindell, who has been an enduring ally of President Trump, lost to Speaker of the Minnesota House of Representatives Lisa Demuth in the state's gubernatorial primary election.

That brings the number of Trump endorsees who have been knocked out of the primaries to three.

Last week, Republican congressman Andy Ogles lost in Tennessee, while former federal law enforcement officer Amir Hassan lost in Michigan to a Republican who withdrew from the race last month.

Mr Lindell received President Trump's endorsement in May, when the president wrote on Truth Social: "Mike will be SPECTACULAR!!!

"He truly loves Minnesota, as do I, and wants to bring it back from oblivion and embarrassment. He can do it!"

Ms Demuth is expected to face a tough race against Democratic nominee Senator Amy Klobuchar in the aftermath of Operation Metro Surge, the immigration deportation campaign in Minneapolis that led to the deaths of two people.

Meanwhile in Wisconsin, moderate David Crowley beat Democratic socialist Francesca Hong in a tight race for the state's Democratic gubernatorial primary election, which was seen as a key test for the appeal of progressive candidates in the battleground state.

But it comes after a progressive candidate won in Michigan, namely Abdul El-Sayed, who was last week chosen by Democrats to run for the senate in the state.

El-Sayed winning the Democratic senate primary in Michigan was a huge victory for the left of the party, as he saw off a heavily-backed establishment candidate.

If he wins in November, El-Sayed would become America's first Muslim senator.
