Donald Trump Jr gets married - but president not expected to attend wedding ceremony

Donald Trump's eldest son has got married, but the US president is not expected to attend the wedding ceremony this weekend.

Sky's US partner network NBC News said Donald Trump Jr and socialite Bettina Anderson tied the knot on Thursday in West Palm Beach, Florida, according to Palm Beach County records.

It is not clear why the president will likely not be attending but there is speculation it could be because the couple want to have a very private ceremony, which would help to allay any security concerns.

Mr Trump also recently said he has "a thing called Iran".

Speaking to NBC at the White House on Thursday, the president said "it's going to be just a small, little private affair" for the wedding ceremony, but he would not likely attend.

"He'd like me to go... I'm going to try and make it. I'm in the midst - I said, you know, this is not good timing for me," he said.

Mr Trump added: "I have a thing called Iran and other things. That's one I can't win on." He said that either way, he would be attacked by the media.

"If I do attend, I get killed. If I don't attend, I get killed, by the fake news, of course."

Mr Trump also offered his congratulations to the couple in a post on Truth Social on Friday: "While I very much wanted to be with my son, Don Jr., and the newest member of the Trump Family, his soon to be wife, Bettina, circumstances pertaining to Government, and my love for the United States of America, do not allow me to do so.

"I feel it is important for me to remain in Washington, D.C., at the White House during this important period of time. Congratulations to Don and Bettina!"

A source close to Mr Trump Jr told CNN that the president was expected not to attend the wedding in the Bahamas, due to the couple's desire to have an incredibly private ceremony.

Mr Trump Jr was married to Vanessa Trump for 13 years, and the couple have five children together.

He was previously engaged to Kimberly Guilfoyle, whom the president appointed as US ambassador to Greece in 2025 after she parted ways with Trump Jr.

What's been happening with Iran?

Talks have been at a stalemate between Washington and Tehran since a two-week ceasefire was brokered by Pakistan on 8 April and was later extended.

Mr Trump told a Republican rally in New York on Friday that the war will be "over with soon", repeating claims that Iran is "dying to make a deal".

Pakistan's army chief Field Marshal Asim Munir arrived in Tehran on Friday for discussions with Iranian foreign minister Abbas Araghchi on the "latest efforts and diplomatic initiatives to prevent escalation".

Neither side has announced a deal, and according to Axios, Mr Trump is seriously considering launching new strikes against Iran, barring a last-minute breakthrough in negotiations.

The New York Times is also reporting that Iran has discussed partnering with Oman to charge ships fees for services through the Strait of Hormuz.

The report said Tehran is not planning to introduce a simple toll system in the crucial waterway, but has explored a proposal to charge vessels fees.

US secretary of state Marco Rubio said in response: "There is not a country in the world that should accept that... that's just not acceptable".
