Ibrahim Mbaye transfer news: Aston Villa reach verbal agreement to sign PSG and Senegal forward

Aston Villa have reached a verbal agreement with Paris Saint-Germain to sign winger Ibrahim Mbaye.

A figure in the region of £47m has been agreed between the two clubs after Villa moved to bring in the 18-year-old due to missing out on AC Milan forward Rafa Leao to Galatasaray.

Sky Sports News reported in March that Villa were one of the Premier League clubs considering a move for Mbaye.

Liverpool also explored a potential deal for Mbaye this summer. However, they have since pursued a move for Mbaye's teammate, Bradley Barcola.

Mbaye predominantly plays on the right wing and made 24 Ligue 1 appearances for PSG last season, scoring three goals and adding two assists.

Emery on transfer plans before Deadline Day

It has been a summer of upheaval for the Villa squad after losing Youri Tielemans, Morgan Rogers, Ezri Konsa and Lucas Digne. Ollie Watkins and Emiliano Martinez also look set to leave the club.

Alejandro Garnacho, Johan Manzambi, Leon Goretzka, Joao Gomes, Aaron Wan-Bissaka, Matteo Ruggeri have all arrived, while a deal has also been agreed to sign Nicolas Jackson from Chelsea before an agreement was reached for Mbaye.

Speaking ahead of Villa facing Arsenal, live on Monday Night Football, Unai Emery was asked about the club's transfer plans ahead of Deadline Day on September 1.

"We took some decisions because it's good for the club. We tried to compete as good as possible, but some situations are clear," he said.

"It's the right way and decision. We don't want to be a club to sell players, but our responsibility is there. For the club it's a good deal.

"It's not changing our priorities to be competitive. We must be the same. Strong development with the players.

"I am confident and positive. The players we are signing are good players. We need to get balance with experience and players with huge potential.

"Of course, I want to keep some players, the ones who help us to be successful. But I accept it because I have experience before in the same situation.

"I expect to continue to do special and different ways. The objective is to get progressively in the same way. We will need time."

Emery on Watkins exit and Jackson arrival

Aston Villa boss Unai Emery confirmed Ollie Watkins' departure and the imminent arrival of Nicolas Jackson in his press conference.

Emery revealed Watkins apologised after he missed the Brighton defeat and said the striker made a mistake. He is set to join Al Hilal in a £50m deal.

Villa have lined up Jackson from Chelsea as his replacement, with a £65m deal all that remains to be completed following his medical on Thursday.

Emery said: "Watkins said sorry after Brighton. He made a mistake. He always had good behaviour in the club and with me. He's a fantastic guy. I told him 'bye', with a huge hug and a small cry.

"Now it's a new chapter with Nicolas Jackson. Of course, all the best for him in Saudi. We are replacing him."

Jackson signed in time to play Monday? "Hopefully."
