Victoria Hall's murder in Suffolk went unsolved for more than 25 years.
Steve Wright, 67, formerly of London Road, in Ipswich, had been due to go on trial at the Old Bailey, but changed his plea and admitted killing the 17-year-old.
Miss Hall was last seen alive at the end of a night out in Felixstowe in September 1999.
Her disappearance came seven years before Wright - who was dubbed the Suffolk Strangler by the press - murdered five women from Ipswich's red light area at the end of 2006.
Wright, then aged 48, was arrested at his home in Ipswich on 19 December of that year.
The bodies of his victims had been found in locations around the Ipswich area.
Gemma Adams and Tania Nicol
Tania Nicol, 19, disappeared on 30 October.
Her remains were found at Copdock on the edge of Ipswich on 8 December.
Tania's parents said she was a "lovely daughter", adding she was a "caring, loving, sensitive girl" who would "never hurt anyone".
"Unfortunately, drugs took her away into her own secret world - a world that neither of us were aware of," her father said.
Miss Adams's body was found in a stream at the village of Hintlesham, just outside of Ipswich, on 2 December after disappearing in November.
Paula Clennell and Annette Nicholls
On 12 December, the bodies of Paula Clennell, 24, and Annette Nicholls, 29, were found near woods at Levington.
Paula was described as "lively, intelligent, witty" and "quite sharp, she was no fool".
"She always claimed she couldn't read or write" but she used to "whizz through crossword puzzles", friends said.
She had a "big drug problem" but was "good company" and could be "very caring".
Anneli Alderton
The 24-year-old was three months pregnant when she disappeared.
The last confirmed sighting of her was on a train from Harwich, Essex, on 3 December.
A week later, Anneli's body was found in woods at Nacton, near Ipswich.
Pathology evidence suggested all the women had been choked or strangled.
During a trial at Ipswich Crown Court in 2008, prosecutors said Wright "systematically selected and murdered" the women after stalking the streets around his home.
DNA and fibres linked to his clothes, house and car were found on the victims.
