Man admits Huntingdon train stabbings - but still faces trial on attempted murder charges

A man has admitted stabbing 10 people on a London-bound LNER train - but still faces trial on more serious attempted murder charges.

Anthony Williams, 33, appeared at Cambridge Crown Court by video-link on Monday morning, where he pleaded guilty to 10 counts of wounding with intent over the incident in Huntingdon, in Cambridgeshire, on 1 November last year.

He also pleaded guilty to possession of a bladed article, a kitchen knife, on the train between Peterborough and Huntingdon.

Williams further admitted a string of other offences relating to attacks before the mass stabbing on the LNER train from Doncaster.

He pleaded guilty to wounding a 14-year-old boy with intent, two counts of attempting to wound with intent, affray at a barber shop, and having a large bladed knife in Peterborough on 31 October 2025, as well as theft of kitchen knives from a branch of Asda, in Stevenage, on the same date.

Williams pleaded guilty to a further count of wounding with intent and possession of a knife over an attack on a teenager at Pontoon Dock DLR station, east London, early on 1 November.

He also admitted common assault of a man on a St Pancras to Biggleswade train on 1 November and assaulting a police officer while he was in custody on the early hours of 2 November.

But prosecutor Christopher Paxton KC said the 21 guilty pleas "do not resolve the indictment".

Williams previously pleaded not guilty to 14 alternative charges of attempted murder and faces trial at the same court from Monday next week.

The charges relate to 10 men on the LNER on 1 November, a 14-year-old boy, a 22-year-old man, and a 28-year-old man in Peterborough on 31 October, and a 17-year-old boy at Pontoon Dock on 1 November.
