Carlos Alcaraz issues statement after Wimbledon withdrawal

Two-time champion Carlos Alcaraz has withdrawn from Wimbledon.

The world No. 2 had already been ruled out of the French Open because of a wrist injury, and the 23-year-old revealed on Tuesday that he would miss the action at the All England Club too.

Alcaraz won the Wimbledon title in 2023 and 2024 before losing to Jannik Sinner in last year's final.

In a statement on X, Alcaraz said: "My recovery is going well, and I feel much better, but unfortunately I'm still not ready to be able to play, and that's why I have to withdraw from the grass-court swing at Queen's and Wimbledon.

"They are two really special tournaments for me, and I'll miss them a lot. We keep working to return as soon as possible!"

Alcaraz began the year well, beating Serbian great Novak Djokovic in the final of the Australian Open to complete a career Grand Slam.

In doing so, he became the youngest man ever to achieve the feat, then aged 22.

However, Alcaraz hurt his wrist at the Barcelona Open in April.

The injury, an inflammation of the tendon sheath of the wrist, was found to be more serious than first thought, and he was ruled out of the Italian Open and French Open tournaments.

Alcaraz's Wimbledon withdrawal brings an end to his run of three consecutive SW19 finals: 2023, 2024 and 2025.
