COVID fines have been issued to people visiting the town to see the abbey.
Whitby has seen an increasing number of people visiting the town in breach of the lockdown regulations.
Superintendent Mike Walker from North Yorkshire Police says some have travelled a significant distance to get there.
The two people travelling from Edinburgh to Cambridge who took a detour to see Whitby Abbey are among 110 people to get a COVID fine in the Scarborough Borough Last Week.
Four people from Newcastle were also fined for visiting the town.
Superintendent Walker says two thirds of COVID fines they issued last week were to visitors.
Supt Walker also voiced the forces continuing commitment to keeping the public of North Yorkshire safe by saying:
“I would ask the public to carry on adhering to the rules and continue to stay at home and only leave for necessary reasons, so we can pass the next milestone on the Government’s roadmap. Let’s keep going.”
“We’ll continue to patrol and to follow our 4 e’s approach and we will continue to enforce the relevant legislation when necessary, to protect all our chances of coming out of lockdown in line with the roadmap and as quickly and safely as possible.”
