Top University Places Secured After Excellent Scarborough Exam Results

It's A Level and T Level results day, on Thursday, across the country with students up and down the Yorkshire Coast finding out how they got on.

Scarborough Sixth Form College has achieved an overall pass rate of 99 per cent across its 2026 cohort.

More than half of all grades awarded to the students were at the highest levels, including A* to B or Distinction* and Distinction.

A Level students celebrated an impressive pass rate of over 97 per cent. Within this group, 42 per cent achieved the top grades of A*, A, or B, while 71 per cent walked away with grades ranging from A* to C.

Applied General Qualifications achieved a pass rate exceeding 99 per cent, with 62 per cent of students earning a Distinction Star or Distinction.

Meanwhile, a 100 per cent pass rate was recorded by the T Level cohort, with 60 per cent of those students securing a Distinction.

Principal Phil Rumsey praised the students for their hard work and highlighted the unique practical benefits of the T Level courses:

"Yeah, they've done really again this year. So, really good results. And that means that the students are going to go on to great destinations, whether that's university or employment. Generally speaking, we've got really high grades across all the subjects and some great destinations for the students to go to. A few individuals that I'm very pleased with their results. Obviously, one or two that haven't got what they wanted, but we got plenty of support in place for those. And in particular, I would say our T level results were fantastic. 60% of them got distinction, which is fantastic. So, unlike your traditional A Level and BTech, which is classroom based, the T levels have a significant work placement element to it, so the students spend some time in the classroom learning theory, but then they also have time in practice in the actual work."

Positions on some of the country's most prestigious courses have been offered to the Scarborough students as a result of their high grades.

However, college leaders are reminding young people that alternative routes are always available if exam envelopes do not contain the expected news, with dedicated careers teams on standby to offer guidance.

Mr Rumsey added:

"Yeah, every year we get offers from Oxford, Cambridge and then a lot of the very competitive courses like medicine and law. Yeah, right across the board we get offers for our students. Obviously, there'll be some disappointment but you can't change what you've got. Look forward to what you can do. There's always a route forward for every student, whether that's a different university course or whether that's the employment that they've secured. But the careers team are on hand to support all the students, so it's really a case of don't panic, seek some advice, and we'll help you get to where you want to be. Our results were pretty much on a par with last year. I don't know what the national rates are, but I imagine that they'll be very similar as well. So, yeah, it's just another good year, basically."
