Scarborough Yacht Club are holding a fund-raising race today to help support club member Guy Waites' bid to take part in the Golden Globe round the world yacht race in the autumn.
Guy is taking part in the Golden Globe Race 2022, a single handed round the world yacht race in September, using the technology of the 1960's
The Brass Bay race at lunchtime is a one off race with no electronic aids.
Yacht Club Commodore - Clive Murray - says the club is keen to support Guy's round the world adventure.
Today's race gets underway at 1pm with the sailors using no electronic aids other than VHF radios for safety. The entry fees from the race are going towards Guy's Golden Globe fundraising.
Clive Murray says Guy's challenge is the biggest faced by any club member in their 127 year history, and thinks Guy is the right sailor for the job.
