Staintondale Railway Returns

The Staintondale Moorland Railway returns today.

The popular Yorkshire Coast attraction raises money for a different cause every month.

This time it's for the Dementia train also run by Lisa and Alan Williams.

The Stanintondale Railway opens on the first Sunday of every month from May to August.

Lisa revealed what visitors to Staintondale on Sunday can enjoy and how the summer season has started:

" It's been going well. We've had good response from people, but sadly the weather's been against us and they keep saying it's not gonna be great this Sunday, but it will not defeat us. We'll still run and we'll still have lots of cake and lots of coffee and tea available. It's a seven a quarter inch gauge, so it's passenger carrying children and adults alike.

"It isn't just for children. We do a lovely ride with. We've worked hard on all our gardens and things as well, so it's quite pretty. And the ride takes you down to the lake and around the garden thing, so it's very pretty there. We also have a plant stall. We have a tombola stall and we sell lots of homemade cake and scones and tea and coffee."

Lisa explained how the service they're fundraising for helps people living with Dementia and their carers:

" They bring people along and we put jazz music on board. I say jazz are two fabulous jazz musicians. But they play absolutely everything in anything. And we do complimentary hand massages and homemade biscuits we give out on the trade and lots of other little goodies. We are doing this Sunday towards that.

"Because we are trying to get the funding going, keep it going for so far I think we've got it going for two years. It's every other month. So we had the. People dancing in the aisles. And we've, we learned a long time ago, as everybody did, I think living with dementia do respond to music. And then more recent studies that they do respond to, to massage.

"So we thought we can do hand massages on the train."

The gardens are open from 2-5pm. They're at Moorland House in Staintondale, YO13 0EW, just turn off the A171 at the Falcon pub and follow the ribbons.
