Scarborough Sailor, Guy Waites, has accomplished his solo circumnavigation of the globe.
Guy set off on his round the world challenge last September as part of the Golden Globe Race, problems with barnacles forced him to call in to port in Cape Town in December, that moved him from the main Golden Globe Race in to the Chichester Class competition.
Further delays getting to Hobart in Tasmania saw Guy miss a key cut off date and have to retire from the race, but that didn't stop him continuing to pursue his personal goal of completing a solo circumnavigation, a challenge he has now completed.
Guy is not due back in port for a few more weeks, but his return journey has now crossed over his outbound route, meaning he has circled the globe.
Guy's Wife - Julie - told Paddy at Breakfast that it's a massive accomplishment.
Julie said there has been enormous support for Guy, which has increased since he was forced to retire from the Golden Globe Race element of his challenge.
Guy has been officially recognised by the International Association of Cape Horners as one of the few solo sailors to navigate the cape. Julie Waites told Paddy at Breakfast there are very few people to have made that particular journey single handedly.
