Eastfield's Neighbourhood Policing Team say they have seen an increase in the use of E-Scooters and Hoverboards in the local area.
In the post officers from the Eastfield and Filey policing team say that they have seen an increase in the recent usage of E-Scooters and Hoverboards across all areas of the neighbourhood team.
They say:
"Whilst many will see these as toys and suitable for children to play with it is actually quite clear that these should not be used in public (roads or footpath) without a drivers licence or insurance. They are a form of powered transport and classed as a motor vehicle under the Road Traffic Act.
There are approved hire schemes in some locations (such as York) but there is none in the Scarborough area.
We always aim to educate such users in the first instance but sometimes this advice is not accepted and we have had two scooters seized in the last couple of weeks with young riders looking at the possibility of having serious driving offences on their record when it was so easily avoidable. Riders could look at 6 points and a £300 fine.
We are reaching out to all parents of such vehicle users and stop any possible convictions (and tears) at this early stage. We are always happy to advise, so if you see us out and about please just get our attention and ask away."
