The Tory candidate hoping to become Scarborough & Whitby's next MP has made a strong statement following a recent attack in South London.
Following the recent acid attack in London where a mother and two children were seriously hurt and the reports that the alleged assailant was granted asylum after committing sexual assault, Scarborough & Whitby Conservative candidate Roberto Weeden-Sanz has called for asylum claimants, who are convicted of crimes, to be deported.
Mr Weeden-Sanz is due to stand as Tory candidate for Scarborough & Whitby after Sir Robert Goodwill retires at the next general election.
He told This is the Coast:
“This appalling case reinforces my view that we should never entertain asylum claims from people with criminal convictions. Anybody who is a non-British citizen and is convicted of criminal offences in this country should be automatically deported. We have been seen as a soft touch for too long and the government must continue its efforts to change this.”
“The British people are welcoming and broadminded and accept those who have legitimate claims but expect us to have control of our borders. However, this case highlights the abuse of their trust and the deficiencies in the current system. We need to learn the lessons from this case to ensure that we no longer entertain asylum claims from convicted criminals.”
