The Rainbow Centre in Scarborough has officially launched its annual Christmas Appeal, with the ambitious goal of raising £10,000 to assist individuals and families in the area facing hardship during the festive season.
The centre is highlighting its mission to provide vital support to those struggling throughout what "should be a joyful and magical season." The charity, which has been supporting vulnerable people in its community for almost 28 years, aids the homeless, people in crisis, and families under difficult circumstances.
In 2024 alone, The Rainbow Centre carried out nearly 20,000 critical interventions. On average, the charity provides food for approximately 1,000 people every month. Core services include a foodbank, café, hot showers, and debt-advice support, among others. The Centre reports that demand for its services "continues to grow sharply" due to the rising cost of living and increased fuel costs affecting more working families in the area.
To help mitigate the pressure on households, the appeal will see the distribution of food vouchers and gifts for children throughout December, alongside the usual daily services. The organisation anticipates that hundreds of families are expected to require this vital support over the festive period.
James Howard, Fundraising Officer, emphasised the spirit of the campaign saying:
“Christmas is a magical time, and it is no different here at The Rainbow Centre,” Mr Howard said. “It is a great opportunity for the whole community to come together to help provide festive cheer for those that would otherwise go without.” He added that kind donations ensure "people can experience what some take for granted. No family should struggle, and no child should go without presents at such a magical time.”
The Rainbow Centre is calling on local residents, community groups, and businesses to "stand with us this Christmas" and help them reach the £10,000 target. It stressed that every donation, regardless of size, helps the charity continue its mission to bring "hope, dignity, and joy" to those in the most need.
