North Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service donates Breathing Apparatus equipment to FIRE AID

North Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service has donated its former Breathing Apparatus sets and associated equipment to FIRE AID following the successful rollout of new state‑of‑the‑art Breathing Apparatus to operational firefighters in October 2025.

The donated equipment will support FIRE AID’s global humanitarian work, helping to provide life‑saving fire and rescue equipment to vulnerable communities around the world, while reducing unnecessary waste. FIRE AID is a registered charity that facilitates the transfer of surplus emergency service equipment to where it is needed most, ensuring it can continue to save lives long after it has been replaced in UK fire services.

Deputy Chief Fire Officer Garry Mackay said:

“The introduction of our new Breathing Apparatus equipment last year marked a significant investment in the safety of our firefighters, but it was equally important to us that the equipment being replaced could continue to be used for good. By donating our previous sets to FIRE AID, we are ensuring the legacy of this vital equipment can go on to support communities who need it most, while also supporting our Sustainability Strategy.”

Deputy Mayor for Policing, Fire and Crime Jo Coles said

“I am proud to see our continued investment in firefighter safety through the rollout of new breathing apparatus sets last year. This donation means that equipment which has served North Yorkshire well will now go on to strengthen emergency response and protect communities across the world.”

The donation follows the introduction of the Service’s new breathing apparatus which provides firefighters with the latest safety features and technology.
