The departure of another senior officer from North Yorkshire Council has been announced.
Gary Fielding, the corporate director for resources, is set to leave his £160,000 a year job with the authority to join Lancashire County Council as their corporate director of finance.
In an email to members, North Yorkshire Council chief executive Richard Flinton said the officer would play a leading role in his new employer’s progress towards local government reorganisation.
Mr Flinton added:
“Gary has been a great servant to North Yorkshire.
“He has played an important role in getting the council to where it is today not least in ensuring the financially sound position that the council has.
“I have worked closely with Gary for around 20 years and I and his other colleagues and I will miss him greatly.”
Mr Fielding, who is expected to leave at the end of May, added:
“North Yorkshire has been so kind to me over the decades. I will forever be grateful to North Yorkshire for training me to be an accountant through to becoming the director of resources.
“It’s a great place to work but it’s the people that make it the great council that it is and I have been blessed to have worked with some of the best people in local government.
“This was never going to be an easy decision, but Lancashire is a return to home for me. And then its an opportunity to go through LGR all over again!”
The departure comes after Richard Webb, the current corporate director for health and adult services at North Yorkshire Council, was appointed as the new chief executive at City of York Council.
In October, Sir Stuart Carlton left his job as corporate director for children and young people’s service.
Sir Stuart has been replaced by El Mayhew, the former director of children and families at Hertfordshire County Council.
Local government reorganisation in Lancashire will replace the existing two-tier system with new unitary authorities in 2028.
