An upgraded helipad at Scarborough Hospital means it will soon be able to receive night time landings.
Scarborough Hospital is getting a new Helipad for use by air ambulances and air sea rescue services.
The upgraded facility is currently able to handle day flights but will soon be able to receive landings at night as well.
Mark Steed is Director of Property Management at the York and Scarborough Hospital Trust, he says it's a great addition to the hospital site.
The new landing pad is currently usable during the day and landing lights are being installed in the coming weeks.
The project has seen around a £500k investment and has been funded by the HELP Appeal, an external charity that focusses on
funding helipads.
Mark Steed says building the Helipad has been a big job and has required a sizeable amount of paint.
The new pad is Civil Aviation Authority compliant and will enable a greater range of helicopters to land it will also enable night landings at the hospital for the first time.
