New Deputy Chief Constable for Humberside Police

Former Assistant Chief Constable Sarah Baker has been appointed as the new Deputy Chief Constable for Humberside Police.

DCC Baker joined the force in December last year from the National Police Air Service, where she was on secondment from her home force of West Yorkshire, where she started her 23 -year policing career. She is an accredited Strategic Firearms Commander, as well as a gold Public Order Commander and a Gold Multi-Agency Incident Commander and has held various roles in her career from roads to neighbourhood policing and CID to becoming a District Commander.

Speaking of her new role, DCC Baker said:

“I am absolutely honoured and feel incredibly privileged to have been appointed as Humberside’s Deputy Chief Constable.

“In a very short period of time, Humberside moved to being recognised as an outstanding police force in the UK, and I want to ensure we continue achieving and delivering the best possible service to our communities in the future.

“One of my first tasks as Deputy Chief Constable is to help shape and develop Humberside’s direction and priorities, to ensure that our vision is focused, sustainable, and aligned with the needs of our communities, victims and our workforce.”

As DCC, taking the role from former DCC Dave Marshall who retired earlier this month, she will now be responsible for overseeing the management and operational leadership of the force, with specific portfolio responsibilities for Professional Standards, Corporate and Legal Services and Corporate Communications.

DCC Baker continued:

“I’ve always been happy and comfortable doing the operational side of policing, and loved being on the frontline, on the streets and helping people, but I’ve also got a strong interest in governance, accountability and performances, which effectively is strategic leadership and my role now!

“Everything we do within the police service is about protecting the public and making them feel safe. It is without doubt a privilege to be in this position because you are there for people at the best and worst of times.

“I will do everything I can to ensure we deliver an outstanding service to our communities across Hull, East Yorkshire, North Lincolnshire and North East Lincolnshire and I look forward to continuing to work with our officers and staff in order to do this. Humberside is a force that puts victims, communities, and our workforce at the heart of everything we do, and I’m very proud to be a part of that.”
