Bridlington's all-weather lifeboat, Antony Patrick Jones, was launched at the request of the Coastguard on Wednesday to an incident 65 miles away.
The RNLI's volunteer crew received the call for assistance at 10am. They were asked to collect a person out at sea on a support vessel some 65 miles northeast of Bridlington.
Bridlington RNLI were informed that the individual required evacuating to a hospital, the medical advice was they should be transferred within 12 hours.
The vessel was 67 meter long and 1830 tonnes from Great Yarmouth on gas rig standby duties, so was a big enough ship to provide the lifeboat with protection from the weather conditions to safely disembark the casualty from the support vessel’s rescue area.
Steve Emmerson, Bridlington RNLI Coxswain said,
‘Weather conditions were uncomfortable with a moderate wind on the way east to the casualty which increased to a strong breeze with moderate to large waves for the return trip.
Once back to Bridlington Harbour the casualty disembarked at Crane Wharf, he was handed over to the Coastguards for his onward journey arrangements to the hospital. The ALB returned to the beach at 4.30pm, was refuelled and ready for service again by 5.30pm.’
