The number of dangerous defects on North Yorkshire's roads that are repaired within two hours has increased this year but still falls short of the target.
Figures show that 94.2% of dangerous defects have been repaired within the two hour time frame. The target is for 99% of such defects to be addressed in under two hours.
Executive Member for Highways, Councillor Malcolm Taylor, says the improvement in response times is welcome but adds that there is still more work to do:
"The two hour response times can be impacted by a number of factors, including the overall volume, number of defects at that point that have manifested themselves and the impact of adverse weather and the ability to address those defects within timescales during adverse weather events such as the January 25 snowy event.
It's also difficult to predict when a dangerous defect will present itself, so there'll always be a slight lag when there's an upturn in service demand.
North Yorkshire Council continue with our program of proactive highway inspections as well as our program of capital schemes investment.
There is work to be done. It's work in progress, but we do have some strategies in place to address, our performance. "
