Humberside Police have launched a new force-wide proactive initiative, Operation Coastline, with a focus on engaging with communities across the coastal region as they see an increase in seasonal visitors.
Grabbing your suncream, sunhats and sunglasses? Gathering the pennies for the amusements? Looking for the best spot on the beach to set down for the day? So are offenders across the region, that's the message from Humberside Police as they launch Operation Coastline.
With the warmer months just around the corner, coastal and market towns will begin to see an influx of tourists to the area and Humberside Polcie say that officers across their local neighbourhood policing teams, the Rural Task Force and Community Safety Unit will be involved in high visibility patrols to ensure coastal communities are safe from crime.
Superintendent Paul Butler said:
“From today, Operation Coastline has launched across the Humberside area to ensure our coastal and market towns remain safe from criminality that may be travelling into, and across, our force area throughout the warmer months.
“As the weather begins to get warmer and the nights become lighter, our coastal areas will begin to see a surge in visitors as part of local tourism, which can also result in an increase of criminality in the area.
“Members within our communities can expect to see an increased presence of officers across the area, out and about, patrolling hotspot locations and speaking to people to provide reassurance.
“In an effort to keep our communities safe and ensure that people, including families, can enjoy the coastal areas within our region, we will be targeting our resources effectively to disrupt criminal activity.
“We will also be working with partnership agencies throughout the week and focusing on youth engagement to tackle any antisocial behaviour in these areas.”
Humberside Police and Crime Commissioner Jonathan Evison said:
“We are lucky enough to have a number of coastal towns in our area, but with these places comes an influx of visitors in peak periods often leading to an increase in criminality.
“By having an increased police presence in the hotspot areas, we can keep our residents and visitors safe and allow people to enjoy our coastal areas.”
