East Riding of Yorkshire Council’s trading standards service has successfully secured a three-month closure order against The Vape Shop on Cliff Road, Hornsea
The order was granted by Beverley Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday 20th August under the Anti-Social Behaviour, Crime and Policing Act 2014.
The closure order requires the premises to remain shut for a period of three months, during which time any breach of the order may result in further legal action.
The closure follows an investigation by trading standards, which uncovered significant anti-social behaviour linked to the premises.
Evidence presented to the court alledged that the business was involved in the sale of illegal tobacco, cigarettes, and vapes, including the supply of these age-restricted products to children.
Shops which sell illegal products and supply vapes and cigarettes to children as young as 13 endanger young people as well as undermining legitimate businesses and causing nuisance to local communities.
Councillor Lyn Healing, East Riding of Yorkshire Council cabinet member for communities and public protection said
“This is a significant result for our trading standards team and a clear message to others engaging in similar activities.
“We remain committed to taking firm action against any business found to be trading illegally, particularly those that put children at risk.”
