Hornsea's volunteer rescue team have been back in action this week.
Hornsea Inshore Rescue was called into action by Humber Coastguard on Tuesday following reports of a vessel that had broken down off the coast near Cowden.
The lifeboat, named ‘Spirit of Hornsea,’ swiftly launched and arrived on the scene to assist.
Upon reaching the distressed vessel, the crew successfully took it under tow and transported it back to Hornsea Beach for recovery. After the operation, the boat was refuelled and prepared for its next service, ensuring it remains ready for future emergencies.
This incident marks Call Out No. 18 for Hornsea Inshore Rescue in 2025. The crew involved in the operation included Tom Mitchell serving as Coxswain, Jake Roberts as Helm, with Rob Carthew and Carl Handley as crew members. Jack Wells fulfilled the role of Launch Master during the mission.
In light of this incident, Hornsea Inshore Rescue reminds the public that if they find themselves in trouble along the coast, they should call 999 and ask for the Coastguard. This call to action underscores the importance of safety measures for those enjoying the coastal waters.
The Hornsea Inshore Rescue team continues to play a vital role in ensuring the safety of maritime activities along the Yorkshire Coast.
