A fundraising event is taking place today to help the sanctuary get back home.
Whitby Wildlife Sanctuary are hoping to be back at their main site in January, 12 months after a bird flu outbreak led to DEFRA imposing restrictions on its use.
Manager, Alexandra Smith says it's been a challenging year.
A case of Avian Flu at the sanctuary in January 2022 lead the Animal and Plant Health Agency to carry out a cull of all birds at the site and lead to a 12 month restriction on the sites use.
The Sanctuary team are holding a fundraising jumble sale at Haswker Village hall today to help raise funds to the main site back up and running.
Alexandra Smith from the Sanctuary says there it's lots of work to do at the main site and today's fundraising will help get the main site back on track.
The Christmas jumble sale will run from 11am until 3pm today at Hawsker Village hall and will feature Christmas stock, jumble, bric-a-brac, clothes, baked goods and refreshments and a tombola with all proceeds going to Whitby Wildlife Sanctuary.
