As Graham School in Scarborough is closed due to a COVID outbreak, North Yorkshire's Education bosses say further School closures can't be ruled out.
Graham School in Scarborough has informed pupils and parents that the entire school will be closed until July 6th after a number of COVID cases at the school.
It's the first time since March that an entire school in North Yorkshire has been closed as a the result of COVID.
In a letter to parents the School said:
"Joint letter from the Director of Public Health, CEO, Hope Learning Trust and the Principal of Graham School to all parents/carers of students in Graham School
Dear Parents/Carers
As you will be aware, some members of the school community have recently tested positive for Covid-19. Because of this, a number of staff and students in the school have been asked to isolate having been identified as close contacts of positive cases.
Unfortunately, since our last communication, more positive cases have been reported to the school. So that we can prioritise both the quality of education as well as the health and wellbeing of our staff and students, Hope Learning Trust has made the difficult decision to close the school temporarily. This decision is supported by North Yorkshire County Council and Public Health England.
Graham School will therefore be closed from Friday 25 June and remain closed until Tuesday 6 July."
Graham School say that lessons are being delivered via Google Classroom and that all pupils should log in and join live lessons or complete set tasks.
Year 10 exams are being rescheduled and the Year 7 parents evening has been postponed.
With new variants appearing and the further easing of lockdown restrictions expected in the next few weeks, director of children and young people's services Stuart Carlton says further full closures can't be ruled out:
Mr Carlton says with the under 18's now being the largest unvaccinated group of people it's possible that closures might become necessary if there was a significant outbreak:
