The Stephen Joseph Theatre is to continue to receive a council grant for the next four years.
The Borough Council's Cabinet has approved the £116k a year grant which will support the theatre in it's bid to the arts council to retain it's "National Portfolio Holder Status".
That status enable the theatre to secure other funding streams.
Janet Deacon is the Borough Council's Head of Tourism and Culture.
The Arts Council allocate funding to those organisations who can demonstrate that they are well connected and that they are engaged with and supported by their Local Authority. As well those who can demonstrate that they can meet the Arts Council’s strategic aims and objectives.
The Borough Council already provide an annual grant to the theatre, Janet Deacon says providing the four year commitment will show the area's commitment to the the theatre.
The Arts Council are opening the next round of applications for NPO status in April this year with a view to awarding funding in April 2023 for the next three/four years. The deadline for applications is 18 May and organisations will be notified if they have been successful by the end of October 2022.
