The seaside town will be in a local area with Malton and Thirsk when local government reorganisation takes place next year.
When the new unitary council for North Yorkshire comes in to being next April, Some local decision making is going to be handled by new "local area committees'
But the committees are being set up to mirror the parliamentary constituency's used for general elections, so while Scarborough and Whitby will be in one area, Filey will be in a committee with Malton, Helmsley and Thirsk.
Chief Exec of the current county council, Richard Flinton, accepts that seems a little odd, but says it doesn't mean Filey's coastal issues will be overlooked.
The Local Area Committees are expected to consist of around 15 councillors from the geographic area they cover.

The county council's website says the new committees will provide:
"Greater transparency with powerful new area constituency committees. They will oversee their local areas, championing their cause, strengthening relationships with their MPs and making important decisions locally on vital matters such as planning and licensing, holding the new council to account."
Despite the odd geography of the Filey constituency, County Council Chief Exec, Richard Flinton, thinks the change will bring a number of opportunities.
