Scarborough Rugby Club are holding the official opening of their new Padel Tennis courts this evening.
England rugby ace Zoe Aldcroft will be at the event along with top international Padel tennis players.
Rugby Club Director - Scott McCabe - says Padel tennis has become a massive sport elsewhere in Europe.
Padel Tennis is best described as a mixture between squash and tennis. It is played in doubles on an enclosed court that is slightly smaller than a tennis court.
Scoring is the same as tennis however the game is played with a solid padel instead of a racket and the balls used are slightly less pressurised.
Scott says Padel Tennis has a number of advantages over traditional forms of tennis which make it more accessible to more people.
Rugby Club Director - Scott McCabe says Padel Tennis is a growing sport and some of the sports top players will also be at today's event.
The new facilities at the Rugby Club include two outdoor courts with lighting and artificial grass surfaces. It's estimated that there are only 250 Padel courts in the UK. Scott McCabe hopes that Scarborough can become a regional centre for the sport.
Operated by Barons Fitness, the courts are available to beginners and improvers alike, with coaches on hand to provide expert tuition if required.
