A major recruitment drive has been launched for the East Riding Council to find its new Executive Director of Prosperity and Place.
The authority is looking for a candidate to provide strategic leadership for the services that shape the everyday experience of living, working and visiting the East Riding.
The annual salary for the role is between £153,685 and £164,743 and will see the new council staff member leading a diverse portfolio across housing, public protection, infrastructure, environmental services, culture, customer services, planning and transport.
Ensuring the East Riding’s towns, villages and countryside remain safe, clean, welcoming and sustainable is also listed as key missions in the new job description. The authority wants the new Executive Director of Prosperity and Place to lead the delivery of high-quality public services, drive innovation and ensure residents benefit from well-maintained public spaces, thriving communities, accessible services and a strong natural environment.
An East Riding of Yorkshire Council spokesperson said:
“The role has been created as part of plans to build on the council’s strong senior leadership structure by bringing together services previously led across two Executive Director portfolios. This provides a clear strategic focus for growth, regeneration and investment, helping to maximise opportunities for the East Riding.
“The council’s ambition is to ensure the East Riding continues to be a great place to live, work, visit and invest, with thriving communities, a strong local economy and enhance our high quality towns, countryside and coast.”
The salary reflects the significance of the role
The spokesperson explained the salary was crucial in recruiting a candidate who would be capable of shaping the future of a region with a growing economy, adding: “The salary reflects the scale and significance of the role, which includes responsibility for major services, programmes and partnerships that help shape the future of the East Riding. The council believes attracting an outstanding leader with the right skills and experience will help deliver long-term value and positive outcomes for residents and taxpayers.”
The job advert makes clear the authority needs a confident and collaborative leader with a proven ability to lead change, develop high-performing teams and oversee significant budgets and programmes.
Paul Bellotti, Chief Executive East Riding Council, writes a personal message on the job advert, stating:
“We are entering a period of purposeful transformation, strengthening how we work with our partners, hope we attract and secure investment, and how we shape the places that our residents and businesses call home.
“As Executive Director of Prosperity and Place, you will play a pivotal role in that journey, actively championing the East Riding on the region and national stage, influencing strategic investment decisions, and ensuring our inclusion in key UK growth and infrastructure programmes.”
