East Riding of Yorkshire Council have thrown their weight behind York as the best location for a national rail centre.
York are one of six areas in the country on the shortlist to be the HQ of Great British Rail.
East Riding Council have backed the nearby city.
Councillor Leo Hammond, who represents residents near to York, proposed the plan:
