Citizens Advice Hull & East Riding is offering 1,000 free energy-saving kits to local households to help combat rising living costs, alongside new weekly drop-in advice sessions across the region.
Residents across the Yorkshire Coast and the wider East Riding area are being offered a helping hand as Citizens Advice Hull & East Riding launches a new initiative aimed at reducing household energy bills. The charity, which has served the region for over 85 years, is distributing 1,000 "energy packs" containing practical items designed to improve home efficiency.
The packs, funded by Northern Powergrid, include items such as draught-proofing materials, window insulation, room thermometers, water-saving devices, and dehumidifiers. According to the charity, these resources—when paired with expert advice—could save individual households up to £800 annually. Alongside the hardware, the bags contain a guidebook detailing how to manage meter readings and navigate complex energy tariffs.
To provide further support, the charity is launching weekly face-to-face drop-in sessions. Starting mid-March, energy experts will be available to assist residents with tariff comparisons, debt advice, and guidance on energy-efficient home upgrades like heat pumps and solar panels. These sessions are scheduled to take place every week at the charity’s offices in Bridlington on Wednesdays, as well as in Beverley and Goole on their respective days.
Kirsty Connor, Head of Specialist Advice Services at Citizens Advice Hull & East Riding, highlighted the importance of accessible, person-to-person support during a time of fluctuating fuel prices.
Every day our Energy Team helps clients navigate their bills, keep warm, save money and solve problems, and now we’re delighted to be opening our doors three times a week in the East Riding for people to drop in, have a chat and find out how we can help. Just a few small changes can lead to significant savings on your energy bills, and these bags give people the tools to do exactly that. We can also go through your unique situation to see if you’re entitled to any benefits or discounts that could relieve the strain. Pop in and see us!
While industry analysts suggest that some relief may be on the horizon regarding the Energy Price Cap, the charity notes that global market volatility remains a concern for many families. By offering independent advice, the organisation aims to help residents ensure they are on the most appropriate tariffs and are not missing out on potential financial support.
Beyond the new weekly drop-ins, Citizens Advice Hull & East Riding continues to offer support via their dedicated helpline at 0800 4480721, which is open from 9am to 4pm, Monday through Friday. Residents from coastal communities, including those travelling from Scarborough or surrounding villages, are encouraged to reach out to the charity to see how these resources might assist their individual circumstances.
