A local councillor has called for progress on devolution for the East Riding of Yorkshire.
Bridlington would benefit from the East Riding and Hull forming a combined mayoral authority.
That's the view of Bridlington Councillor Richard Burton who says the move would provide access to government devolution funding.
Councillor Burton says the town has a good track record of attracting funding but needs to look forward.
Councillor Burton says that Bridlington could miss out on government funding if the East Riding and Hull don't move towards creating a combined mayoral authority.
He says the current devolution proposal for the East Riding to accept what's called a "county deal" could mean missing out on government cash.
The opportunity for a Hull and East Riding devolution deal was announced as part the government's Levelling Up White Paper published in February. The deal could unlock a multi-million-pound strategic investment in the region.
In March 2020, both councils confirmed their intentions to work closely together to progress a strong and ambitious case for a regional devolution deal between the two authorities.
