In a bid to raise funds for an expanded climbing facility at The Street in Scarborough, the Coast and Vale Community Action are holding a sponsored Climbathon beginning today.
They are giving climbers the opportunity to climb the equivalent of El Capitan in Yosemite, which is 914 metres, over a 24-hour period.
The fundraiser get's under at 2pm today and finishes on Sunday afternoon.
Mel Bonney is CEO of CaVca and she says that now is the perfect time to look at expanding the facilities.
The CaVca already have a 10m, 5 line wall for both top-roping and lead climbing. With investment they are looking to create three new climbing spaces within the building - including bouldering, auto-belays and abseil platform.
Mel Bonney says that it's all about raising awareness of the need of increased climbing facilities in Scarborough.
