Bridlington Town AFC has announced an official twinning with Norwegian League 2 side Arendal FC, a partnership aimed at strengthening player development and fostering international collaboration.
Club chairman Dan Rogers described the agreement as a significant step in creating pathways for young players. He said:
“One of the most crucial aspects of the pathways we have created for the young people of Bridlington through our partnerships with SFS and CYP is to find a platform for those that excel to grow beyond Bridlington Town and for us to provide real and genuine opportunities for those with the aptitude to progress into the professional game, simultaneously increasing our attractiveness for those considering football as a profession under the SFS scholarship programmes.”
Rogers added that the club had been impressed by Arendal’s “forward-thinking approach, world class facilities and professionalism” since the two sides first met last year. He confirmed that Arendal will base themselves in Bridlington during their winter off-season, offering opportunities for Bridlington scholars to train with the Norwegian team. He noted:
“Who knows, we may even see a few Norwegian names on our team sheet in the coming weeks.”
Arendal FC’s leader, Asbjorn Sauesund, welcomed the partnership, describing it as a chance to build strong international ties. He said:
“We are very pleased to formalise our partnership with Bridlington Town. As a club with a clear ambition to reach the top of Norwegian football at senior level, we see this collaboration as a valuable opportunity to build strong international relationships and contribute to shared sporting growth.”
Sauesund praised the facilities at Bridlington Town and the progress achieved through its partnerships with CYP and SFS. He added:
“It is clear to us that Bridlington have chosen a direction that will lead to sporting success in the years ahead, and we look forward to contributing to making that vision a reality.”
The agreement is expected to benefit both clubs on and off the pitch. Supporters have been told to anticipate a Bridlington away day in Arendal during the Norwegian side’s 2026 campaign, when they will pursue promotion to League 1. In return, Bridlington Town will welcome their Norwegian partners to Queensgate.
