National Highways has confirmed the return of essential roadworks along key sections of the A64, following weeks of delays caused by adverse weather conditions.
The work is focused on making journeys "smoother and safer" through the refurbishment of slip roads across North Yorkshire.
Tonight, December 12th, 2025, the travelling public face an overnight closure on a vital stretch of the road as workers return to complete the resurfacing.
National Highways: Yorkshire stated that the initial schedule had been disrupted because of "wet and windy weather over the past two months," necessitating the postponement of some planned works. The organisation confirmed that they are now returning to the route to complete the required resurfacing.
The overall project encompasses essential tasks, including resurfacing, refreshing road markings, and renewing road studs at several key interchanges, including the Old Malton interchange/A169 eastbound exit, Brambling Fields eastbound entry and westbound exit, and the Askham Bryan and Askham Bar/Copmanthorpe eastbound exits.
Tonight’s Closure and Diversion
In order to carry out the required repairs safely, an overnight closure is now in effect for one night. National Highways announced that the A64 will be closed eastbound from the A169/Old Malton to Brambling Fields.
The closure begins tonight (December 12th, 2025) and runs from 8 pm until 6 am.
While works are active, drivers will be diverted via the A169, the A170, and the A64. National Highways confirmed that all diversion routes have been agreed upon with local authorities and are designed to be suitable for all types of vehicles, including heavy goods vehicles (HGVs).

However, travellers should be aware that all scheduled works remain dependent on conditions, and National Highways cautions that operations "may be rescheduled in poor conditions".
This essential maintenance is part of a larger schedule of closures, which includes future works taking place in January and March 2026, targeting sections such as Bull Piece Lane, Bilbrough Top, and Copmanthorpe.
