Councillors have approved a ‘world-famous’ Scarborough fish and chip shop’s application to sell alcohol and play music despite local concerns.

Councillors in the East Riding have expressed deep concern following the government's announcement of a provisional funding settlement, which local leaders claim will leave the authority among the worst-affected in the country.

Whitby's Mayor has said the town council should look for new sources of funding as the authority considers raising its precepts.
