Homes evacuated after pipe bomb attack in Belfast

Homes have been evacuated after a pipe bomb attack at a property in north Belfast.

The Police Service of Northern Ireland (PSNI) said cordons are in place and a number of residents had been evacuated after the incident in the Stanhope Street area.

The explosion is said to have occurred in the early hours of Friday morning.

However, no injuries have been reported as a result of the incident.

Sinn Fein councillor JJ Magee said the "pipe bomb attack" had left the local community "in shock".

PSNI said: "Police are at the scene of a security alert in the Stanhope Street area of north Belfast following an explosion at a house in the early hours of Friday, 16th October.

"Cordons are in place and a number of local residents are being evacuated."

Members of the public, including motorists, have been asked to avoid the area.

Pictures from the scene shows a heavy police presence and the home cordoned off with police tape.
