Four killed in Israeli strikes on southern Lebanon

Four people, including two women, have been killed in Israeli strikes on southern Lebanon, the Lebanese health ministry has said.

The ministry ‌said two men were killed in a town on the edge of an area Israel has declared a security zone - occupied by Israeli troops.

The two women were killed in Arab Salim, which sits well north of the occupied area, it added.

Despite a US-brokered ceasefire with Hezbollah, the Israeli military continues operating in southern Lebanon.

It said its strikes early on Sunday were in retaliation for the terrorist group firing two drones at Israeli soldiers stationed in the security zone.

The Israeli Defence Force (IDF) had issued an online evacuation warning in the early hours of Sunday, saying it planned to strike areas near a building in Arab Salim which it said was being used by Hezbollah.

Six people, including two girls, were injured in that strike.

The evacuation warning was the second issued since the June ‌ceasefire announcement.

The first came in early August, after Israel had dropped leaflets on the village of Mansouri a week into the ceasefire, telling residents to leave ahead of strikes.

On Friday, the Lebanese health ministry said four people were killed and 23 injured in Israeli strikes launched on southern Lebanon without evacuation warnings.

The Israeli military said those strikes hit Hezbollah weapons storage facilities.

Hezbollah said on Saturday that Israel's continued escalation was intended to pressure the Lebanese government, which has been having direct talks with Israel - negotiations the Iran-backed group has rejected.

More than 4,300 people have been killed by Israeli strikes on Lebanon since 2 March, when Hezbollah fired at Israel in support of Iran.
