Princess of Wales returns to Royal Ascot for first time since cancer diagnosis

The Princess of Wales has returned to Royal Ascot for the first time since her cancer diagnosis.

Wearing a yellow sunshine dress, she and Prince William took part in the traditional carriage ride, enjoyed the races from the royal box and joked with former England manager Sir Gareth Southgate ahead of England's World Cup game against Croatia.

It marks Kate's first appearance at the Berkshire event since being diagnosed with cancer in early 2024 and later undergoing successful chemotherapy treatment.

She and William were joined by the King and Queen, as well as the Princess Royal and her husband Vice Admiral Sir Tim Laurence, Zara Phillips and the Duke and Duchess of Edinburgh.

The princess joined William as he handed out a trophy for one of the winners in the Prince of Wales' Stakes.

Worse luck was had by the monarchs when their horse Point of Law finished outside the top three in the Queen's Vase.

It's the latest public appearance by the prince and princess, after appearing with their children during the weekend's Trooping the Colour ceremony and Monday's Garter Day celebrations at Windsor Castle.

Their attendance comes after they announced that Prince George will be attending Eton College in the autumn, following in the footsteps of William.
