Navy Moores, 3, 'becomes youngest person to hike Lake District's 214 Wainwright fells'

A three-year-old boy is thought to be the youngest person ever to conquer all of the Wainwright fells - a famous group of 214 peaks in the Lake District.

Navy Moores and his family set out on a mission to climb the summits five months ago.

On Sunday, the family completed the last peak of their 510-mile challenge - meaning Navy is now thought to be the youngest person ever to hike each of the 214 popular fells in Cumbria.

Speaking to Sky News, dad Daniel said Navy was born in 2022 and the hikes started "relatively early on".

"We were carrying him prior to doing the Wainwrights, and he just wanted to be set free and to go and run with his older brother," he continued.

"So that's kind of how it led to Navy becoming part of the hiking independently. We've always treated it as a family adventure, as a way for us to just get out and do something together."

Mum Leanne, who home schools Navy and his siblings, Oliver and Jessica, added that "it's easy to put the learning in with the hiking".

"The amount of things they can learn just by being outdoors and witnessing things for themselves - even just basic life skills," she said.

Leanne said Navy's favourite part of hiking was "the running", and six-year-old Oliver said "it's fun" to get out.

Jessica, 15, added that it was a bonding activity they shared "all together as a family".

Daniel said they had been asked a number of times whether they'd carried Navy, but insisted "he's done this himself".

"People are surprised by his age," he said.

"I think because we started at an early age and we've kept up with it... I think it's just keeping up that momentum, and keeping it fun."

He added: "It's always been led by Navy and Oliver and Jessica and just letting Navy set the pace, and join it as a family.

"We never really started this to try and get a record for Navy to become the youngest known person to complete the Wainwrights.

"It was just about spending time together as a family. Someone had told us we hadn't appreciated just how young Navy was doing this because it became almost like everyday life."

The family ended their Lake District challenge on Scafell Pike - England's highest mountain - but said there's more to come from the three-year-old.
