Man arrested over 'suspected explosion' at block of flats in Ipswich, police say

A man has been arrested on suspicion of criminal damage with intent to endanger life following an apparent explosion at a block of flats in Ipswich, Suffolk Police have said.

Police were called to Princes Street on Friday just before 8.45pm following reports of a suspected explosion at a block of flats that damaged several windows.

Residents of the property were evacuated as a precaution and the street closed for safety reasons.

An 18-year-old man was arrested shortly after 9pm on "suspicion of arson/criminal damage with intent to endanger life", police said.

He has been taken to Martlesham Police Investigation Centre for questioning and remains in custody.

"Enquiries continue to establish the circumstances of the incident, however no injuries have been reported," Suffolk Constabulary said.
