King and Queen to visit Antigua and Barbuda during autumn tour

The King and Queen will undertake a royal visit to Antigua and Barbuda during an autumn tour, Buckingham Palace has announced.

Their visit to the Caribbean will coincide with their attendance at the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting (CHOGM) 2026, which is being held in Antigua and Barbuda from 1-4 November.

Charles, who is king of Antigua and Barbuda, is also the head of the Commonwealth, a club of more than 50 countries that evolved from the British Empire.

Before the CHOGM meeting, the King will undertake a royal visit to The Bahamas - another nation where he is monarch - before a state visit to Guyana, marking 60 years of bilateral relations between the UK and Guyana.

The tour will last between 27 October and 4 November and will "celebrate communities, cultures and nature within the Commonwealth family", the palace said.

The King last visited the Caribbean in 2021, when he formally acknowledged "the appalling atrocity of slavery" at an event marking Barbados becoming a republic.

The then Prince of Wales had been invited to speak at the transition ceremony formalising the Caribbean island's decision to remove Queen Elizabeth II as its head of state.

Earlier this year, the King and Queen spent four days in the US during a historic state visit.

It was the first state visit to the US by a British monarch since 2007, when Queen Elizabeth II met George W Bush.
